The colors of R. calendulaceum!

R. calendulaceum is one of the azaleas most commonly referred to as the flame azalea. It's often admired for its vibrant orange color! But like many azaleas, there is a spectrum of possibilities within each species. The picture that accompanies this post shows two mature flame azaleas in our nursery that are very different in color. One is almost a school bus yellow, and the other is traditional orange. We have both colors manifesting themselves in our one-gallon pots. The variety is part of what makes us love working with this plant! Below, we've "zoomed out" a bit so you can see these beauts en situ.
